Our boats & notable wildlife seen

This season (2008)
We are running our boat called Heron. She is similar to the Lady Jane (see photo) but more modern with a fold down roof, this reduces tidal problems with bridges. We can now travel to Fordwich any day at most times of tide.
She was built in 1965, and at 8.68mts long (28ft) was no.1 Lifeboat on the cruise ship Saga Rose.
We also have Invicta an ex Royal Navy boat, built 1924, as back up boat this year.
Back to the future.
Lots of work, blisters etc. I hope to have a Flagship, mainly for trips down river in a year or two. 36 reg tons under 50 feet long complete with 45 ft mast. First built in Holland 1903, 107 years old and possibly going back to work.
Progress so far; The hull is now restored to above the waterline as of the summer 2008 the first coats of tar have been applied. This autumn the foredeck has been all but completed with two anchor winches and new bollards fitted. The cabin and fee board are next to be fully welded in the progress towards the aft end of the ship. A 6cyl Ford 120hp is now ready to be fitted with 3 to 1 gearbox, propeller and shaft also waiting to go in. This should give her a top speed under power of over 10 knots.
Autumn 2008 all external plate of ship now welded and aft deck beams in staled with hangers for fuel tank.
Notable wildlife seen.
Dec 2007. 30 Seals. see below.
Now less than 2% chance of not seeing Seal.

I could see one of the seals in the water just behind the boat, I called some of the passengers to come and look when he came up almost touching the rudder. We stared at each other for almost a minute, the closest I have been to a seal to date and he came to us!
